Secure and private Telehealth sessions via video or phone
Telehealth refers to a private session between you and your psychologist conducted via video or phone. A video session is very similar to connecting with family, friends or business contacts using programs such as FaceTime, Google Meet or Zoom. This can be done on your mobile device or personal computer. A phone session is the same as a regular phone call.
For video sessions you will need access to a device such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer which has a camera, microphone and speakers or headphones and a reliable broadband internet connection.
You do not need to install any special apps or software. Video sessions are conducted in your web browser.
If you don't have the necessary equipment for a video session you can have your Telehealth sessions via phone.
Make sure you have a suitable private space. Think about who else might be able to overhear the conversation. Who else will be in the room? Who is in the room next door?
Remove potential distractions from the room. Put your mobile phone on silent, turn off music and television background noise. Close other applications on your computer, including messaging software and social media. Place your device or computer on a stable surface, try to avoid hand-holding your device or computer during the session.
Position the camera appropriately so your psychologist can see your face clearly on the screen. Make sure you are in a space that is well-lit, allowing a clear image and good eye contact. Try to avoid strong lighting behind you, from windows or artificial lighting, as this can make your face appear dark in the video image.
Psychological treatment provided via video has been found to be as effective as a in-person treatment for a variety of mental health conditions. The range of available therapy, treatments and practices are the same when you see your psychologist via Telehealth or in-person. Some people may be more comfortable with Telehealth. Some conditions are better treated in-person.
Our friendly client services team can talk to you about whether Telehealth sessions are appropriate and suitable for you.
